One of my favorite pieces I’ve ever made. Ocean shaped + polished Big Sur Fire Jade found by yours truly. Fire Jade is unique because it has undergone heating process causing the colors to change to a more silver hue, creating a mesmerizing pattern within the stone.
The native Esselen tribe who has inhabited this area for more than 6,000 years, was known to heat Jade and use it to stay warm. Fires, natural and man made that swept through the area burning the ground underneath were bound to heat some stone along the way. Over the centuries as the landscape changes those stones are now on our beaches and being tumbled to perfection by the ocean.
